I remember the nursery rhyme,
“Row, row row your boat gently down the stream,
merrily merrily merrily merrily, life is but a dream”
When I used to recite that rhyme during my nascent ages, it used to sound good especially with the rhyming words. But now, I understand or rather perceive the philosophy that the rhyme proponents. And here it is as follows.
The act of rowing the boat can be compared to treading the path of life. And the path meets with a lot of trials, tribulations, pleasures, memorable incidents, pain and what not. But as we continue rowing/treading merrily, and as we encounter numerous incidents, what finally seems is that life is a dream. When we wake up to reality from imagination, we see something different from what we have dreamt. And so are some of our hopes, expectations and anxiety. What we get may not be what we have dreamt of.
And no matter what turns up, we need to go along the currents with merry because at the end of it, life is but a dream. And hence, I sing..
““Row, row row your boat gently down the stream, merrily merrily merrily merrily, life is but a dream”
